A Complete Computer In A Ball… [Future of Computing]

April 5, 2009 · 3 Comments

Again technology at its best. I have never seen such thing before. How about taking whole computer in your pocket all the time.  This ball predicts the future of computing. You might have seen many things like this but the unique feature of this ball is that when it is closed, no one can guess that whole computer is hidden inside this ball. When you will open it, you will find a complete set of display screen, virtual keyboard and a mouse.

e-ball

This ball is known as E-Ball and its design is given by Apostol Tnokovski. He was trying to create the smallest PC in the world when he came across this idea.

It is shaped like a sphere because in Tnokovski’s opinion this is the best shape in nature and it draws everybody’s attention.

E-Ball will feature a dual core processor, 250-500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and WLAN card, modem, Web cam and integrated LCD projector.

Also, the E-Ball PC supports a paper holder and the paper sheet on the holder could act like a screen where you can watch movies or something. This concept PC will measure 160mm in diameter and it was designed for Microsoft Windows OS, sorry about the others. For the moment there is no word on pricing or when it’s going to be available, however, I am sure that everybody would like to see a small spherical PC like this one.

Search as you type with Keyboardr

April 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Every now and again I use StumbleUpon to see what kind of unique sites I can find, and last week I found a rather nifty one called Keyboardr. It’s a search engine that distinguishes itself by not actually having (or needing) a search button. Results are show to you in real-time as you type.

Off to the side of the page you’ll also see the top result from Wikipedia, some videos from Youtube, Google Image results, and even Google Blog results. The whole interface is designed to to be navigated using only the keyboard, so you shouldn’t even have to put your hand on the mouse.

The downside? Only eight search results from Google are displayed. You can always click the “All Results” link to be taken directly to Google to view more matches, but since this is using the same API as our CyberSearch extension I know it’s possible for the developer to program this to retrieve multiple pages of results. In fact they should just make it so that as you scroll down the page it keeps fetching more results. That would make it perfect, and especially handy as a homepage that the browser displays each time you create a new tab.

Tip: Pressing the ESC key will clear out the results shown on the page, and it will focus/clear the search box.

Ginipic: Enhanced Image Search for Your Desktop

April 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Searching for a specific image on the Internet can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Some sites, such as Google Image search, try to make the process easier, but shuffling through one page after another of results can quickly get tedious.

That’s where the free desktop application called Ginipic comes into play. You can view hundreds of results at a time, and inserting an image into an app like PowerPoint is as easy as dragging-and-dropping it. To see how easy it really is checkout their video tour.

Here are some other features that make Ginipic worth it:

  • Multiple Sources - You can choose to search your favorite search engine or photo-sharing site (Flickr, Google, Yahoo!, SmugMug, deviantArt, Picasa, Photobucket, Facebook, and more), or expand your search to unlimited results with a click of a button, with our tailored “All Sources” option.
  • No Duplicates - Did you know that, on average, “big search engines not be named” give you 200 duplicates for every 1,000 results? Not with ginipic.
  • Incredible Variety - Ginipic gives you the power of the web to find ANY picture in ANY category with NO restrictions.
  • Advanced Search - Advanced search gives you the ability to customize your queries in each source – just as you would on their site.
  • Resizing - Choose your own preview size for the best possible experience! Maximize to enjoy the picture in all its glory, work small if you’re just browsing away.
  • Tagging - Tag your pictures away and see them all in a heartbeat by choosing your tag in the comfortable Favorites source. Not a tag person? Just favorite the picture and you’ll still have a super easy access to it.
  • Drag & Drop - Drag & Drop functionality gives you the ability to start working immediately – you see something you like, just drag it in your work space and continue working.
  • Save Images Locally - Want to backup or save it for later? No need in clumsy “right click, save as, too hard to understand what’s going on” options – just save the picture right from the preview window when you’re satisfied.
  • Set as Wallpaper - Do you feel like changing your background? Just hit the “Set as wallpaper” on any picture and instantly your desktop will change and renew before your eyes.

This is definitely a slick app, and truly handy for those heavy images searchers out there. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think.
